Airbus Unveils CabinMarker: A Small Robot Revolutionizing Aircraft Seat Installation
Airbus has recently introduced a small cabin robot called CabinMarker, designed to make aircraft seat installation faster, more precise, and easier on workers' knees and backs. The robot, which weighs just four kilograms, can complete the task in 30 minutes, a staggering 80% reduction in time compared to manual installation.
This innovative development marks a significant milestone for Airbus Robotics, founded in 2023. CabinMarker's journey began as a prototype at Airbus ProtoSpace in 2018 before being refined for production use and receiving official industrial certification in December 2025.
Airbus' primary goal is not solely to replace manual tasks with automation but rather to equip workers with better tools for repetitive, uncomfortable, or time-consuming jobs. The planemaker has also introduced exoskeletons that help workers avoid musculoskeletal strain, as well as the FlexTrack drilling robot used on A320 Family fuselage pre-assembly lines.
The CabinMarker's primary function is to automate seat positioning with high accuracy, improving quality and precision, reducing rework, and freeing up workers to focus on more complex production tasks. This robotic solution is particularly noteworthy in the context of aircraft cabin installation, which typically involves physically demanding tasks such as bending, kneeling, or crawling along the cabin floor.
Airbus has already conducted testing on the A330 final assembly line in Toulouse, France, with the first two CabinMarker units set to arrive at the Jean-Luc Lagardère A321 final assembly line in late 2026. The company plans to deploy the robot to other aircraft assembly facilities, with an average deployment rate of around two machines per line.
While initially designed for single-aisle aircraft, CabinMarker will require some adjustments before it can be used on widebody planes. However, Airbus is already exploring future applications for this robotic platform, including automated corrosion detection and cleaning and taping aircraft floor rails.
The public debut of CabinMarker as a mobile demonstrator is slated to take place at the ILA Air Show in Berlin in June 2026. This innovative technology has the potential to revolutionize aircraft cabin installation, streamlining production and reducing errors.
